About Us

Louis W. Porras has been in the publishing business since 1995. Through Canyonlands Publishing Group, LC, he published Pythons of Australia, by Brian A. Kend, and served as Managing Director of Fauna magazine. In 2002, he founded Eagle Mountain Publishing, LC, to specialize in the production of high-quality books in the biological sciences. Three widely acclaimed books (Biology of the Vipers, Rigor Vitae: Life Unyielding - The Art of Carel Pieter Brest van Kempen, and Biology of the Boas and Pythons are testament to his commitment of achieving the highest standards in modern publishing.  Two new titles, Conservation of Mesoamerican Amphibians and Reptiles and Amphibians, Reptiles, and Turtles in Kansas have just been released. 

Throughout his business career, Louis has also been active in academic herpetology, having authored or co-authored over 50 papers, including the description of new species and the important contribution The Ecological Impact of Man on the South Florida Herpetofauna, published by the University of Kansas and sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund. Porras has also served as President of the International Herpetological Symposium, Inc., and during his tenura was instrumental in launching the journal Hewrpetological Natural History. A native Costa Rican, in 2004 he translated Serpientes de Costa Rica / Snakes of Costa Rica (by Alejandro Solórzano) from Spanish to English. Two reptiles, a gecko from the Ragged Islands and a pitviper from Costa Rica have been names in his honor.
