About Us
After a lengthy career with various aspects of herpetology, in 1995, Louis W. Porras ventured into the publishing business. Through Canyonlands Publishing Group, LC, he helped publish Pythons of Australia, by Brian A. Kend, was involved with launching the widely acclaimed Fauna magazine, and distributed Roger Conant’s autobiography A Field Guide to the Life and Times of Roger Conant (published by Selva). After a stint as Editorial Director of Fauna magazine (through Fauna, Inc.), in the spring of 2002, Louis formed his own publishing business, Eagle Mountain Publishing, LC (=EMP).
Eagle Mountain’s first title, Biology of the Vipers, was published in late 2002. Through EMP, Louis served as editorial consultant for various books published in Europe and translated Serpientes de Costa Rica/Snakes of Costa Rica (by Alejandro Solórzano; published by InBio) from Spanish to English. In 2006, EMP published Rigor Vitae: Life Unyielding – The Art of Carel Pieter Brest van Kempen, and earlier this year Biology of the Boas and Pythons. Conservation of Mesoamerican Amphibians and Reptiles presently is in the works, with an expected release date of 2008. Other titles are under consideration.
