The artist, William B. Montgomery, is renowned for his etchings and lithographic prints of reptiles. In the tradition of early natural history engravings, his prints are scientifically accurate and capture the intrinsic beauty of his subjects. His etchings and lithographs have appeared on the dustjackets of several prominent works, including Biology of the Pitvipers (Selva, 1992) and the most recent printing of Laurence Klauber’s monumental work on rattlesnakes (University of California Press, 1997
The lithograph of the Adder (Vipera berus) was commissioned for the dustjacket of Biology of the Vipers, and was drawn, printed, and hand-colored by the artist. Hand-pulled as a limited edition of 50 on archival 100% rag paper, each lithograph is signed and numbered.
