Instructions to Authors
Authors should review these instructions carefully before submitting manuscripts for the symposium volume tentatively entitled Conservation of Mesoamerican Amphibians and Reptiles. The editors of this book will be Larry David Wilson and Josiah H. Townsend.
No substantial portion of any manuscript can be published or submitted for consideration elsewhere. Prior to publication, Eagle Mountain Publishing, LC will send the author (or senior author) of each accepted manuscript a copyright transfer agreement shortly before PDF proofs are made available. These forms must be completed and returned to the publisher by mail or fax within 72 hours. In the event the author (or senior author) is unavailable (e.g., in the field), prior arrangements must be made with the publisher.
Mechanical and Editorial Requirements
Manuscripts must be written in English and submitted on 8.5″ x 11″ paper (21.5 x 28 cm), as well as on a diskette or CD. Type manuscripts double-spaced with wide margins throughout, and aligned left. Indent each paragraph, except for paragraphs immediately following each header.
Avoid wordiness and use the passive voice sparingly (e.g., materials and methods); for every sentence in the passive voice, see if it can be expressed more exactly and concisely in the active voice. Maintain headers in the body of the manuscript as brief as necessary. A single space follows each period.
Cite references in the text in the following manner: Wilson and Meyer (1985) or (Wilson and Meyer, 1985), no ampersand in the former, and the use of a comma to separate the name from the date in the latter. If possible, consult Biology of the Vipers (Schuett et al., 2002, Eds.) for the use of CAPS, SMALL CAPS, bold, and other aspects of the publisher’s format and style (e.g., “et al.” not in italics). SMALL CAPS are used for the author names in the Literature Cited, and multiple citations are listed in chronological order (earliest date first), followed by the alphabetical order.
